Translated from What’s ENER section of Ener’s Big Adventure website.
Ener is a white, male long coat Chihuahua who was born on July 11, 2006, and joined Gackt’s family in early 2007. He was named “Ener” because Gackt “hoped that he can give other people energy”. Ener made his debut to Gackt fans in the members-only blog “Foot Soldier Ener’s diary of the Feudal Lord”, which was featured on Gackt.com.The blog was written from Ener’s perspective, as he described events in Gackt’s daily life.In the blog, Ener is referred to as "foot soldier" and he addresses Gackt as "My Lord", probably because the blog was first started at the time Gackt was starring in Fuurin Kazan. The blog entries included photographs of Ener inside Gackt’s house, posing with Gackt’s stuff, and occasionally at various outdoor locations. Ener would also sometimes make appearances in
You’s blog whenever You got the chance to babysit Ener.
Inspiration:
In December 2007, Gackt’s beloved dog Bell passed away suddenly. Bell was a miniature Dachshund that had been with Gackt’s family for many years. It was said that Ener received a message from Bell, in heaven, that said “The Earth is crying.” This message was the inspiration for the creation of the illustrated character of Ener, and Gackt hoped that through this character, Ener and Bell’s existence would be a meaningful one that would last forever. In Gackt’s message regarding Ener’s Big Adventure, he states that the world has become contaminated as a result of man’s desire to make life more convenient for themselves. He hoped that this project could be the first step toward saving the earth, for us and for future generations.
Ener’s Message, and the message from heaven:
I am a Chihuahua named Ener who first came to my master’s house in 2007.
After a year had passed since I arrived, I had a mysterious dream……..
In that dream, I heard a familiar voice from the heavens……..
Animals live in harmony with humans.
Animals live in harmony with society.
Animals live in harmony with nature.
Animals live in harmony with many things.
All living things have value in existence.
The ocean is crying out.
The forest is silently looking down.
The sky is saddened…...
The earth is crying.
The next morning, I was awoken by the sound of rain. Although December was ending and it was winter, for some reason I felt warm.
As I looked up out the window, I saw that the sky was thoroughly enveloped in grey.
Although it’s raining and it’s winter, I feel warm. But it was much colder when I arrived here a year ago…..
That day, I went on an outing with my master, but because it was raining, I stayed in the car. Figuring that I’d be lonely in the car by myself, my friend turned on the television. The sound I heard from the television…
“Global warming is progressing…the earth is crying…let’s begin with what we can do as individuals.”
The earth is crying…it’s the same thing as I heard in the dream.
Global warming…I see, that was the message from heaven.
My master said this. Everything that has a life, has a valuable existence.
The thing that I can do……..
That night, I consulted with my lord.
About the dream, about the television, and about what I can do…….

The Big Adventure:
Ener’s Big Adventure project is a collaboration with “Team -6%”. Team -6% is a citizens group that was established by the government in April 2005 to reduce Japan’s greenhouse gas emissions by 6% (of 1990 levels) between 2008 and 2012, as stipulated by the Kyoto Protocol.
Ener’s first appearance at a public event was at the “Eco Gallery” in Toyako, Hokkaido, one month before the G8 Summit. The Eco Gallery, which opened from June 1 to August 31, 2008, was located at the Toyako Visitor Center, and hosted temporary exhibitions in an 800 square meter tent. Topics covered in the exhibitions ranged from national park and nature conservation activities to global warming and biodiversity. Ener’s character was pictured on “challenge cards” distributed at the Eco Gallery for the “I declare CO2 reduction of 1kg 1day 1person” campaign. This campaign, run by Team -6%, encourages people to reduce their own CO2 emissions by choosing from a list of 39 specific activities (like, shortening shower time by one minute, turning off the main power to appliances, etc.).
This section will be updated with more Ener’s Big Adventure activities as they take place.
