(July 8) Mizerable ~飛翔~ [hishou]

This was Gackt's first photobook as a solo artist. The photographs were all taken on location in France. This is the first of two books called Mizerable. The style of this photobook is reminiscent of his look in Malice Mizer and Mizerable. There seems to be two different Gackts in the photobook.
The first seems to be closer to the present day where his hair is blonde and short and all the pictures are in full-colour. >His clothes are similar to the European-style outfit he wore in the Mizerable PV, complete with the black velvet coat. In the second one, his hair is long and black, tied behind in a loose ponytail, and he is wearing a long white coat. These pictures are in black and white and seem to be taken in the old days. The only similarity between the two costumes are the high collars of the coats.
Interestingly, the two different Gackts appear on the same backgrounds and surroundings in the photoshoot, so it's really as if the current-day Gackt is reliving the life of the old-day Gackt. The first is a church and old dilapidated European buildings, and then they seem to move on to natural surroundings, like gardens, forests, beaches, and cliffs. The last picture shows the real current day Gackt, where he still sports the same short blonde hair, but is wearing current day clothes. He is standing in a field of bright yellow flowers.
(September 8) Mizerable ~運命~ [unmei]

This was Gackt's second photobook. It takes up where we last saw Gackt in the ~hishou~ photobook, where he is wearing the same outfit. The photographs were also taken in France. Unlike in hishou, where he is wearing grand costumes, Gackt wears rather normal outfits in this photobook. He goes through several outfit changes and he is dressed casually in a long-sleeved T-shirt with jacket and pants, usually in all-black or all-white, in most of the pictures.
There is also some with him wearing a smart black suit. Another main difference between hishou and unmei is the background of the photoshoots. In this photobook you see Gackt in more natural surroundings, walking on a deserted street, lying on a railway track, and sleeping naked on a bed. You can also spot his band members, You and Masa, in the background of some of the pictures. There are also a couple of photos where the band members and Gackt pose together naked.
