Moonchild - cast
HYDE (hyde, ハイド) - Kei

Like Gackt, Moon Child was also HYDE's acting debut. HYDE was born on January 20, 1969. hyde is the lead singer of popular Jrock band, L'Arc~en~ciel. He takes on the name HYDE (in capital letters) for his solo work and hyde for his work with L'Arc~en~ciel. For the sake of consistency, I will use HYDE in this writeup since this mainly involves his solo work, unrelated to L'Arc~en~ciel.

He used to hide his profile from the public but he finally revealed his age in 2002. He has also mentioned on various magazines that he came from Wakayama. HYDE is married to Japanese celebrity, Megumi Ooishi (大石恵), and they have a son together. Other than that, all other details about his private life is unknown.

After L'Arc~en~ciel released the single, "Spirit dreams inside – another dream-," in 2001, the band went on an unofficial hiatus and the members pursued their separate solo careers. HYDE released a few singles and albums under his solo projects. It was during this time that Gackt approached HYDE for the role of Kei in Moon Child. He was convinced that Kei was perfect for the role of Kei and persuaded him to take the role. HYDE also collaborated in a duet with Gackt for one of the theme songs of Moon Child, Orenji no Taiyou [オレンジの太陽], which was released in Gackt's fourth album, Crescent.
Since his acting debut in Moon Child, he has appeared in the movie "Kagen no Tsuki" [下弦の月] in 2004. He played the male leading role, Adam, who is a guitarist in this love story based on the popular manga series by Ai Yazawa. Once again, HYDE contributed his musical skills to his movie with "Cape of Storms" from the album Roentgen, which was chosen as the theme song. The song was written fully in English.
HYDE often collaborates and releases works as theme songs for various animations, games and movies. He composed the music for the song "Glamorous Sky" for the movie Nana, another manga adaption by Ai Yazawa. The song was sung by Mika Nakashima, who played the leading role of Nana in the movie, and the lyrics were written by Ai Yazawa. He has since released more singles and albums under his solo work.

Songs from his fourth album, Crescent, such as "Birdcage" and "Orenji no Taiyou", were used in the movie. Previously, he only used his music and concerts to tell the story of MOON, but he tried a different way with Moon Child by expressing it through motion picture.
