HYDE and Gackt take the stage together in cosplay

  VAMPS, the up-and-coming new band brought together by HYDE from L’Arc~en~Ciel and K.A.Z from Oblivion Dust, released their first single “Love Addict” this July. The group held an unprecedented Zepp 46-day tour “VAMPS LIVE 2008” starting with Zepp Sendai on August 1. On October 30 and 31, the band held a Halloween event “NIGHTMARE OF HALLOWEEN” at Zepp Tokyo.

   At this event, VAMPS and MONORAL performed on both days while Tommy Heavenly 6 and Acid Black Cherry performed as guests on the 30th and Tsuchiya Anna and the BREAKERZ performed on the 31st. Close to 2700 fans gathered in the hall dressed up in their own costumes.

   The MC on the 31st was DAIGO, vocalist of the BREAKERZ. The last act of the night, VAMPS, appeared on stage based on the image of “the dead coming back to life from the grave”. The audience released high-pitched screams of welcome as HYDE came out in a blood-stained wedding dress and K.A.Z with a bird perched on his shoulder as the main character from the movie “The Crow”.

   For the encore, yasu from Acid Black Cherry who performed the night before joined all the other performers of the night on stage as they performed a session. At the very end, DAIGO announced, “Our special guest, Gackt-san!!” and Gackt appeared on stage in a military uniform as the surprise guest for the night. As the hall buzzed with excitement, Gackt and HYDE hugged each other, which only made the audience go even wilder.

   “Let’s do something fun for Halloween!” A surprise made possible because of the friendship shared by the two. They performed Motley Crue’s “Shout at the devil” with HYDE on vocals, K.A.Z on guitars, and Gackt, who used to be a drummer before he became a vocalist, on drums. It was the first time Gackt has ever played the drums in public and also the first time HYDE and Gackt were seen together since the release of Moon Child in 2003.

   On January 7, 2009, VAMPS will release their nationwide Zepp tour “VAMPS LIVE 2008” concert DVD and in the spring, their second single. Gackt will release his first single in 1.5 year, his 28th maxi single Jesus on December 3. He will start his nationwide tour “Gackt Live Tour 2008-2009 Requiem et Reminiscence ~Saisei to Kaikou~”, a total of 52 concerts in 43 cities on December 14.
