Departing for Hollywood at last! Co-starring with Josh Hartnett and Demi Moore confirmed

Gackt is finally going to debut in Hollywood! Gackt will be acting in the new film “Bunraku”, which stars Josh Hartnett (who starred in 2001’s “Pearl Harbor”) and Demi Moore (famous for her role in “Ghost”). It came about when the director and screenwriter, Guy Moshe, noticed Gackt through his award-winning[1] role of Uesugi Kenshin in last year’s NHK Taiga drama “Fuurin Kazan”, his drama debut. Since then, Moshe had wanted Gackt to play the partner of the protagonist, played by Josh Hartnett.

Gackt commented as follows: “I think it’s an honor that my performance of a new Uesugi Kenshin in last year’s Taiga drama, “Fuurin Kazan”, has been recognized (around the) world. I had great interest in a role wherein I could express the spirit of Bushido as the partner of the lead character, played by Josh Hartnett, in a movie that’s set in a borderless world of the near future. More than anything, I was touched by the director coming to Japan himself, and the way he continued to passionately talk about his hopes for this movie and for my performance; I could really feel the need for me to be in this movie, and I readily agreed to perform. I want to prove that even among the big stars representative of Hollywood, my performance, my expression, is world-class. Please wait with (high) expectations. I’m going to go fulfill one more dream. Camui Gackt.”

Gackt has recently opened his own Myspace [www.myspace.com/gackt]. Let’s expect a lot more activities on a global scale! Furthermore, the documentary DVD 「天翔る龍の如く」 featuring making-of footage from “Fuurin Kazan”, a long interview with Gackt, and interviews with co-stars will be released May 21st.

Notes:
[1] Gackt won first place for the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Fuurin Kazan in the Drama of the Year 2007 awards.
