DARTS:

The DARTS as shown in the DIABOLOS CD booklet.

We were first introduced to the DARTS through Gackt's line of silver accessories (more information about DARTS jewelry is in the Fashion:DARTS section). On the h-darts homepage, there is a brief story which explains "What's DARTS". Through this explanation, we learn that the DARTS were a group of "blood relatives" that possessed special abilities. The story does not explain how or where these people were "born" in the first place, but explains how they got their name. In the beginning of the 16th century, the world was at war and they were effectively chased out of this world by those that feared them, and by those who wanted their power. They searched out a new land where they could live peacefully, but they could not find such a place, and eventually dropped into "the darkness". There they did "dark work" and the people called them DARTS~yami no jyuunin~. "yami no jyuunin" translates to resident or inhabitants of the dark, thus they are also referred to as the Darkside Inhabitants. The story ends with the DARTS sealing their own memories, erasing their forms and closing the history of the DARTS.

The origin of the DARTS was clarified by Gackt in the opening of the Sixth Day/Seventh Night tour. He explained in the Gift tourbook that the DARTS were originally from Japan, and were born in the Heian period (794 to 1185).

The story told in DIABOLOS takes place between the years 1500 to 1600, after the events told in the h-darts story. So through DIABOLOS, we were able to learn much more about who the DARTS were.

In DIABOLOS, we learn that the DARTS were scattered all over Europe, and they were at war with each other. One of the clans tried to create beings that could be used for the purposes of fighting, and thus they created the Shito (see discussion of the Shito below). The Shito eventually rose up against the DARTS and we don't know what became of the DARTS after the events of DIABOLOS.

The Shito:

The word “shito” translates to apostle or disciple, and they make their first appearance in the MOON world in DIABOLOS. The Shito were created by the DARTS. There were thirteen Shito to begin with...

The 13 Shito (standing behind them are their creators, the DARTS).

The DARTS, after stepping into the “Sacred Land” in the time period of 1500 to 1600, created the Shito to fight for them. They were referred to as “Apostles”, but their creation ended in failure. Their bodies were weak, and they had no powers. But eventually, the Shito underwent an “awakening” after which they became extremely powerful. Although they were powerful, and immortal, they were imperfect: they could not stand in the sunlight. The form they took are what we now call vampires.

After the awakening, two of the thirteen Shito died (the man and woman shown in the PV for Todokanai Ai to Shitteita noni, Osaekirezuni Aishitsuduketa...),
leaving behind 11. The story of the two Shito is covered in depth in the Discussion section. Out of the 11, five decided to stand up and fight against the DARTS, their creators. They wanted to prove that there was meaning in their existence.

The five Shito who fought against the DARTS.

The battle was fierce, and the Shito were outnumbered by the DARTS. Out of the original 13 Shito, there was only one survivor. Some believe the sole survivor was one of the five who went to battle, while others believe that the sole survivor was one of the six who did not go to battle (the remaining five having passed away). This sole survivor appears to live many years, but his ultimate fate is unknown.

Residents of Mallepa:

The movie MOON CHILD introduces us to two vampires, Kei and Luka. We don't know anything about Luka's background from the movie, but he is probably somehow related to one of the 13 Shito that were originally created by the DARTS. Kei was made into a vampire by Luka, and through flashbacks we learn that Luka ended his own life by standing beneath the sun on the beach, burning to death. After Luka's death, Kei goes to Mallepa and meets with Sho, a young orphan who is surviving in Mallepa through petty crimes. Sho sees Kei feeding off a man, revealing his true nature, but he is not afraid-- the two are immediately drawn to each other and form a strong bond of friendship.

Sho and Kei's companions in Mallepa are Toshi, Son and Yi-Che (and to some extent, Shinji, Sho's older brother). Toshi is Sho's childhood friend and a fellow orphan. When they get older, he helps Sho and Kei by delivering poisoned pizzas to their robbery victims. Toshi is a happy-go-lucky person, acting silly most of the time and making everyone laugh. The three meet Son when their paths cross one day in the year 2025. Son is Taiwanese and was seeking revenge on the same men that Kei, Sho and Toshi were trying to rob. After Kei, Sho and Toshi team up with Son, they quickly become friends and are introduced to Son's sister, Yi-Che. Yi-Che had stopped talking as a child, and Son is very protective of her. Despite the differences in their backgrounds and culture, the five companions enjoy many fun and happy moments together.

The first tragedy occurs when Toshi is killed by members of the Taiwanese mafia. Kei disappears from Mallepa after Toshi's death, and Son goes his own way, eventually joining the group that had Toshi killed. Both Kei and Sho had romantic feelings for Yi-Che, but it's Sho who marries her after Kei disappears. They have a child together, Hana. Sho and Yi-Che's time together is short, as Yi-Che is diagnosed with a brain tumor, from which she eventually dies. Sho faces tragedy after tragedy, enduring the murders of both Toshi and Shinji, as well as the four companions that were helping him as he rose to power in Mallepa. Finding himself alone, Sho desperately calls out to Kei for help. Kei returns to Mallepa, only to witness Sho's death at the hands of Son. Unable to control his anger, Kei kills Son.

In the end, Hana leaves for school, and Sho and Kei are the only ones remaining in Mallepa. We learn that Sho is now a vampire, having been turned into one by Kei who could not bear to see his friend die. The story of MOON comes to an end as Kei and Sho are seen leaving the city, arriving at the beach, and disappearing with the sunrise...
