エンタの神様
(Entaa no Kamisama)
April 19, 2003
There is a short segment where they ask Gackt what show he would like to make
that would only be seen on Entaa no Kamisama. After a really, REALLY long
pause, he says “Moon”. They then show clips of his tour and Moon
Child, showing how the moon is often used in his works. Then they ask him
what kind of show that would be, and Gackt says “light and shadow…front
and back.” They ask him what that means, and he says, “It’s
not something for me to explain. If you see it, you will understand.”
They then show a hint of where his performance was filmed. The performance
of Birdcage then begins, and it is almost like a PV. At the beginning, Gackt
is wearing a brown sack-like costume, similar to what he wore in the Oasis
PV. When the music changes to the faster beat, he is performing in the long
black leather coat he wore during the Kagen and Jougen no Tsuki concerts.
During this part of the performance, there are cool lighting and fire effects,
and columns come crashing down, all of which is accompanied by dramatic sound
effects. As the performance nears its end, the two images of Gackt are edited
together, with images of the moon also appearing throughout.

Gackt appears on this show with two of his bodyguards standing behind him.
He says that he needs them because he gets violent a lot. They ask him to
make a graph that describes himself. He drew a globe with Japan at the center,
and the words “hassou” (idea) and “kangaekata” (way
of thinking). Also, in the corners he wrote “yuzupon” and “kimchee”.
The first comment by the host is, “it’s not really a graph, is
it?” Gackt explains that he drew things he likes, like yuzupon (a sauce
that has a soy sauce/vinegar/lemon flavor) and kimchee (spicy Korean pickled
cabbage). They talk about food, and how he doesn’t eat rice (because
he doesn't eat carbs), but he loves ramen (which he will only eat on special
occasions!). He says he likes alcohol, especially wine, tequila, vodka and
awamori (Okinawan sake). He then tells a story about how he once went drinking
with a friend in Kyoto. They took his car, and when he and his friend were
done and went back to the car, someone had written “aho” (“idiot”)
all along the passenger side of his car. He thought for sure the culprit owned
one of the cars that was parked near his car, so he took one of those yellow
traffic poles and starting from the car behind him, he…the host stops
Gackt from telling the rest of the story because it sounds like he did something
pretty bad! Next, Gackt talks about how he is pretty strong, but that the
bottoms of his feet are weak. He says how he's good at tolerating pain, and
gave an example: sometimes he'll be walking into an elevator, when suddenly
someone calls him from behind; as he stops to talk to that person, the elevator
doors will start closing on him, but he doesn't even realize he's being slammed
by the doors because of his high tolerance for pain! He then talks about how
he likes playing “ashizumo” (“leg sumo”), which the
host has never heard of. Gackt then demonstrates, and has a match with the
host. The next segment is the “fan box”. The room is full of hosts
and bartenders, who all look pretty serious and scary. Gackt says that he
likes host clubs, and that he was a host at one time. They announce to the
fan box that Gackt is in the studio, but no one in the box has any kind of
reaction. One of the guys in the fan box is a big Gackt fan, and when they
ask this fan a question, he answers in really low voice that's hard to hear.
Gackt asks this guy why he speaks so quietly, and the guy responds that he
usually doesn't talk much. Gackt comments that the guy is similar to himself
in that way. Next they talk to a guy who has brought a ferret, and they ask
him how much is the most he has made as a host. He says he makes 20 million
yen a month. The next guy they talk to has brought a giant stag beetle, which
he says he caught himself.
Gackt performed Wasurenaikara and Fragrance. In the performance of Wasurenaikara,
he wore the black and white leather jacket he wore in Moon Child. He was accompanied
by GacktJob. At the end, silver confetti fell all around them. The performance
of Fragrance was intense, Gackt’s gaze piercing as he held the mic,
moving his hands and arms but not leaving his spot. He wore a black shirt
and black leather pants, and his hair is a contrasting blonde. He was accompanied
only by the drummer and You on acoustic guitar. The stage sets are minimal,
but the ground is completely covered in a layer of thick fog. In the middle
of the song, Gackt is bathed in white light as the camera swings around him.

裸にしたい男たち~GacktGackt
(Hadaka ni Shitai Otokotachi ~Gackt) (2001)
In October of 2001, Gackt went on a life-changing trip to Madagascar. This
NHK special documents that two week trip, during which Juunigatsu no Love
Song was born. In one of the first scenes after his arrival in Madagascar,
Gackt visits a forest of baobab trees. He is fascinated by the trees, and
is attracted to one particular tree. As he arrives on a remote island by boat,
the children and people are very curious about him, following him around and
laughing happily. Gackt speaks a little bit of English, and even learns a
little bit of the native language. One of the tasks he engages in is helping
to build a boat. The boat was all hand made, and he spent hours helping to
paint it. Afterwards, he is surrounded by the curious children again, and
he has fun showing them magic tricks. Eventually the adults surround him and
start challenging him to arm wrestling matches! Gackt wins against several
men, and while protesting that he is too tired, he finally loses. Later, Gackt
watches a wrestling match and is eager to try it out himself. Without worrying
about being hurt, Gackt enters a wrestling match, and is declared the winner.
He also attends a concert of local music, and afterwards visits a musical
instrument shop where he jams with the owner. He picks up an instrument he
has never seen before and starts to play it as if he has always known how
to play. At the end of his trip, he attends a religious ceremony, and it’s
during this time that he gets up and leaves to walk on his own. He has been
extremely affected by his time in Madagascar, and he feels it is time for
him to go home. After returning from Madagascar, Gackt wrote and recorded
Juunigatsu no Love Song and went to New York to film the PV.

When the show starts, Gackt is driving and Hamada asks what Gackt wants to
do. Gackt says he wants to play a batsu game with Hamada. Gackt says the winner
will get what he wants. Gackt wants a snowboard, and Hamada wants Gackt’s
darts set. The loser will have to do a part time job. The first game they
play is darts. And Gackt loses! In the middle of the show, they have a food
segment where they cook food for Gackt. On his list of foods he doesn’t
like are foods with lots of carbohydrates as well as hijiki (a type of seaweed),
which he says he doesn’t like because it resembles cockroaches’
legs. The cook makes him a stirfry with cabbage and chirimenjyako (dried baby
sardines), which Gackt likes! The second game they play is a game of chance
where they put sticks into a barrel and whoever chooses the slot that makes
the head pop up is the loser. And Gackt loses AGAIN! As punishment, he has
to work at a gasoline stand, under the name Yamada-kun. Gackt really got into
his job, and a couple of the customers even recognized him! Gackt started
out the show wearing a white long sleeve t-shirt and black pants. His hair
was long and brown and pulled into a ponytail. As Yamada-kun, Gackt is dressed
in the standard gasoline attendant’s uniform, complete with a cap. He
gets in trouble, though, for wearing his cap crooked, and he quickly straightens
it.
Hero’s Hero (2002)
In this show, Gackt talks about his heroes, Date Masamune, Napoleon, and
Albert Einstein. This episode focuses on Einstein’s life and his theories
and accomplishments in the field of physics. Gackt discusses Einstein’s
life and ideas with a girl as they sit in a library surrounded by books. Gackt
wore a dark suit and white tie, as well as glasses. His hair was blonde and
parted to one side.
